Feb 13, 09 05:39 am — It's been a busy day since the launch. We've worked throughout the day implementing and tweaking based on your valuable feedback. The good news is it went off with very minor issues. The site is fast, responsive, and bugs seem to be at a minimum. Thank you to all the members who reported issues and helped us correct them.

We've also been listening closely to your feedback. We've planned a number of changes as well as already launched quite a few:

Latest Comments on Right: Although you can easily browse all the latest comments using the tab on the frontpage, we've added a small tab to the right as well.

Bold, Underline, Italic, etc: Icons have been added below all comment boxes. You can also post images and links too!

Comments We've spread out the comments page a bit to make it easier to read. We added a post comment and top link to each post as well so you can easily make it to the top and bottom of the page. We also changed the colors a bit on the replies so you can better differentiate between a parent post and a reply to that post. Additionally, you'll now notice a bug was fixed in the comments area that prevented replies from separating into paragraphs.

Cleaned up Frontpage: Listing pages are a little more organized now based on your feedback. We've also added a link titled 'Collapse' that will enable you to remove all the descriptions and data that makes browsing links more cumbersome.

One of the features that we're working on for release soon is our customizable frontpage. This will enable you to add sections of the site as well as followed users directly to your own homepage for easy access to the information posted.

Upcoming for Tomorrow:

* Notification via email of replies to your comments
* Bugs related to posting comments / replies

As always, thanks for your help during this transition period and continue letting us know your thoughts on the site, feedback, bug issues, etc.

Thanks again,
Ben and Peter

Appreciate that you're listening to the feed back and tweaking as you go. I was put off yesterday (especially thinking that my posts had been deleted; sorry about that - but hey helped find a glitch.)

Sites looking much better within a 24 hour time period and there have been a lot of lurkers drawn out to post because of it as well, hopefully they continue to.

I still think clicking on the title of a link should get you to the page but I guess it's just gonna take some getting use to.

Nice work folks.

Anyway of expanding link title line? Just browsing the front page and a lot of the titles are cut off because of the length, perhaps have it drop to a second line instead?

We pride ourselves on title here we do.

I agree with TC, you gotta make the link title take you straight to the link. That is annoying as hell. I also agree that titles should be viewed in full. If that means reducing font size, do it. I don't really care for the voting concept. It is extra work and if people don't participate, like me, them your "popular links" list is jacked up and I have to sift through "all links" which don't appear to be approved by anyone which means a lot of them are crap.I like the speed and the new look though.

That's all I can think of for now. Thanks for trying to make MV better, just don't try too much crazy shit. I visit MV because of the community here and the ease of having fun on the site. I enjoy debating, trading jabs, and poking fun with everyone here. I hope you don't drive too many people off with the changes.

Looking good so far, I've got one issue (and no, it's not a bug ) the ad space at the top right of the page above 'today's top users'.
That space is where I've trained my eyes to go automatically, check for friends online, points, censoring, etc.
Can that space be moved to beneath recent comments?

Need to be able to see who's online....the rest of it is just foreign. I'm sure people will get used to it eventually...however, not that I'm a pron czar or anything, but I liked sharing beautiful naked women, and the occasional naked man(for petemoss) with the Madville community. Whenever I saw the NSFW submissions slipping, I usually went on the hunt and sent in 3 or 4. As far as the news links go...that's why I came to Madville. I rarely submit other content other than NSFW, unless it's a really slow day. With this being said, it feels like a lot of the areas where I contribute have been removed and the reason for me to hang around, along with them. As owners, it's your prerogative to remove the NSFW, but at least fess up and say it's due to personal preference and don't imply that we are all so incapable of not clicking on a NSFW link until we get home.

There is a "Who's Online" at the top. It shows the number and if you click the page, a breakdown of who's online, including a tab for people you are following (essentially friends).

The main reason why NSFW has been removed is because the problems it creates with high quality advertising companies. It's not a personal preference or that we think people at work might accidentally get in trouble. It's essentially to make the site more business friendly and marketable.

Thanks.

OK, I gave it a day to get used to, so here are a couple things, my cent and a half...

Avatars on the main page need to be bigger, have to get all squinty eyed to see them like it is.

Agree with TC, need to see the entire title to a link, part of the fun of MV is creative titles.

Bring back the slogans.

Joke of the day?

I liked the closely spaced links the old way, so you could just scan right through them without having to scroll.

And like Zeke said, the reason for coming here is the community and the fun we all have in the comments and blogs and jokes etc, don't change that too much.

I think ya'll did a heck of a job on the transition, like any change, it has good and bad, but need to give it a chance. and bring back the NSFW.

Religion is like a penis. It is fine to have one. It is fine to be proud of it. But please don't whip it out in public and start showing everyone. And please don't shove it down our childrens throat.

Reply to fropfreak:

We played around with making the avatars bigger on the front page but it made the content listings even bigger, taking up even more room than before. Avatars were not on the front page of the old version of Madville, at least I don't think.

We'll play around with showing the entire link title, etc. For the closely spaced links, we've added the ability to condense them. This is an option that is saved for when you return.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Believe me when I say Peter and I spent a great deal of time discussing the features, direction, etc., of the site for the betterment of the community. I know people resist change, especially when they're comfortable, but we're looking to reach a happy medium. Thanks again.

Still don't like having to click tabs to find links by category. This is just user un-friendly compared to the old MV. Plus links posted by category runs on and on, there is no "yesterday's links".

Don't know if I'll visit often enough to get used to it. MV looks like so many other link sharing sites, none of which I liked better than the simple, straight forward "old" version of MV. Simplicity made MV enjoyable.

Alright so I've given it the better part of a day to try and get a feel, I'm heading home now but wanted to voice one more thing quickly.

I felt somewhat lost flipping between tabs looking for links. The upcoming links tab is already filled with site plug-ers or over opinionated political links. The voting system is showing flaws; not voting on the link but instead the site/submitter.

I love the direction the new MV is taking and it may well lose a bit of it's Cheers appeal - where everybody knows your name - but the above is what will turn me off visiting.

Can't say I like the new layout. I used to be able to browse about 20 links on a page, of all types. Now I have to pick a category before I can view anything, and then I can only see 4-5 without scrolling. Can't you come up with a summary page with only a 1-2 line link description and a category? It could be an optional tab if others like it the way it is now. I will probably stop looking here shortly if it stays this way.

Hey -

You dont need to browse all the categories, the frontpage lists all the links from each category. Regarding the shrinking of the front page, click the Hide Descriptions link above the links to minimize things a bit.

Front page wakes up in "popular" tab. That's all links? I thought it was just links already voted on. Or do I need to browse "upcoming" also?

I typically browse in a window. With descriptions off, I can view 5-6 links per page max. At full screen, 9. I remember about 15-20 on the old screen.

Also, I liked the tag first, and on the same line, so it was easy to skip items I would not be interested in. I guess "tags" are replaced by "categories" -- OK, but not as amusing.

I'm trying to like it, I really am. It's growing on me, slowly.

You need to bring back NSFW, it's why people come here (aside from me, of course). Without visitors all the high-end advertisers in the world won't help you.

Here's some real feedback.

I really think you should do way with the "visit link" button and have the headline go to the story. You should also have a banner across the top of the link like the old Madville. That worked well, and it was very unique. It's especially suited for today's tabbed browsers.

Hey Anathema.. Yeah, we're hearing a lot about the visit link and title link so we will look into this and come up with something and then go from there.

What was the banner that went across the top? I remember the old site but are you talking about the category tabs? (E.g., blognatorials, etc.)?

No, I'm not remembering what it was called but when you clicked a headline and went off-site to the link, there was a bar across the top with direct links to comment on the link, favorite the link, etc...There's no way you missed it if you clicked even one link. I'm jusr not doing a great job at describing it. It was a great feature that I never saw anywhere else.

He's referring to the Madville 'frame' at the top of a clicked link. It was a premium option to open links without one. Mandatory for non premium users (that links would open with the frame)If there could be a super thin one, that might work, otherwise, I'm not a fan of the idea.

yeah, not a real big fan on the frame. It was annoying when going to game sites because it took up most of the page and games would fit.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Reply to Anathema:

Yeah. I wasn't fond of the top banner frame either. Like zekej3, I found it was a pain when playing some of the larger flash games.

However, I'm wondering how it would look if it was:

1. Thin

2. Transparent

3. A mouse-over drop-down.

Combine all of those and it could allow default full screen viewing of the link, with quick access to comments, etc. You would just have to make sure that the mouseover was positioned so that it would not interfere with any flash games.

Maybe top left corner, 50 X 50 pixels, or less.

How about the ability to undo something we hit Like/Hate on? What if I hit 'Hate' (Or rather, 'Down Arrow') by accident? It's impossible to undo that as of right now.

A few more things I've noticed.

1. Captions don't have the pic in the comments section
2. Blogs. If you click 'visit link' on a particular blog, it goes to the blog front page, instead of the blog you're trying to visit.
3. Missing friends. Certain people who had been on my friends list for quite some time no longer are i.e. Big T and Mastershake. (and no, I didn't remove them)
