Every event is divided into mens / womens. Why does one woman not being able to compete turn you off an entire Olympics?

Apparently not ski jumping.
Apparently it is as she is not able to compete?

It's not that she can't compete, it's that there is no women's ski jump event at all. Which I find to be complete and utter bullshit considering that a woman just set the world record.
Competition Events (are all mens)
Agreed. There should be a womens event for the ski jump and I'm sure that there will be eventually. To the best of my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, this all just came to light within the last week? So you're up in arms that the Olympics didn't reschedule everything on the spot and notify every country competing that they've just added Womens Skijump; send your best competitors STAT!
Sorry I just think because one event has yet to be added to the venue being turned off the entire games is silly.

Don't they have lot's of women events - they are just not shown as much by the major network covering the Olympics? I really don't know as I've never gone to the Olympics with all that madness.
This has been an issue since 2006.
And I've never been accused of NOT being silly.
Yes they do T - and they are equally covered. Just speaking specifically about skijumping which apparently the defining event of the Olympics.

Pfff. Curling is the BOMB!
Being such an Olympic connoisseur maybe you can suggest some events that should be watched.
See comment above. BOOM!
Yep, curling is cool.
Think I'll find an online version.
*waves buh-bye to work
You are a genius. Please share.
Is that heads or tails?
That was the reverse (Tails) .. the obverse (heads) is the standard Canadian blah, but slightly better

I think I might try to get one of these.
Is ice-fishing an Olympic sports yet?
Will not be watching. Didn't watch when they were just up the street either.
I got to attend several track and field events at the '84 Olympics. Freaking awesome!!!
Got a text from my Vancouver sister yesterday. Our Dad & his wife were up visiting her and her family and they WERE ALL AT THE OPENING CEREMONIES AS SHE TYPED/SHOWED OFF!
USA! USA! USA! (EDIT: and GOoooo Canada, eh?)
RIP, Nodar.
His name is misspelled as Norad here (first paragraph of story) Ouch.
Shit. About 30 miles from me was a hand full of events and 20 the other direction was the opening ceremonies. Well, as it happens a few of my suppliers were mere yards from the venue so needless to say getting work done was impossible for months before. I think it caused more problems than it solved.
Seriously. in '84, Mother's Cookies supplied our tickets to events - otherwise, I prolly woundna gone.
The Olympics was the first sporting event that I stopped watching on TV, back in the mid 1980's. Since then, I have gradually stopped watching every single type of sporting event that is televised.
For quite a few years now I have been sport TV free. No football (didn't watch a minute of the Super Bowl played 15 miles from my house) no baseball (previously a passion of mine) no nothing.
Im not sure if if I'm gonna watch the Olympics show, I am sure a lot will miss this event. Its better to stay up at home, just watch it thru the net or tv, or in whatever way. I hope the management would postponed this, its for the players health and of course to avoid any accidents may happen during the Olympics. Better warned than take a risk especially that the horrible snow storm on the East Coast has left many people stranded, unable to get to work, and some have been left without power 13 they're calling it Snowmageddon. It depends on the areas, but some people may be able to start telecommuting, if they have a job that allows it.

The BS with women not allowed to Ski Jump has left me entirely disinterested in watching.
