Aug 07, 10 11:24 am — A drunken review of "Frontiers (Frontire(s)"), a French slasher flick:

OK, we all know that the 20th century French military record hasn't been that good, but their late 20th century slasher film record has been notable for excellent films such as "High Tension." I'm happy to say that the French, limp wristed as they may have recently been on the battlefield, have continued their excellent record on the film set with their effort of "Frontiers," a sort of cross between "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Children Of Men" with a little bit of "Motel Hell" thrown in.

A right wing government has been elected and the resultant riots have driven a group of 20-somethings out into the French countryside where they deliver themselves into the clutches of a family of cannibals with an authentic Nazi patriarch (left over from the SS), who proceed to do unpleasant thing to them. Sets include a French farmhouse and a deep tunnel mine, not to mention the streets of Paris in flames. Antagonists include a group of tunnel-dwelling mutants.

This is, without doubt, one of the finest films ever made.

Recommendation: 1 shot of tequila followed by 2 12.5% glasses of Burgundy or Merlot. Maybe a third Merlot about 2/3drs of the way in.

Enjoy!
