If you did not hit anyone or almost cause an accident, then going at 128mph ain't that bad. It's when you run out of road, it can be problem ;)

Anything over 123mph is just craziness man, but if you are hitting those speeds I would damn well hope you know where the road ends first.

Sometimes you HAVE to go 128! Like when you jump in the car after robbing the liquor store!

When you live in the middle of nowhere, the roads don't suck, and you are driving a vehicle tht can do it gracefully, it isn't very reckless to simply go fast.

I drove a 1988 toyota camry 4 banger for a while. Anything over 75mph was pretty reckless in that thing. I think downhill the gearing might allow you to hit 90mph.

I had an eclipse GSX after that that I bought new and took care of. That car gave you better control at 110mph than the toyota gave you at 65mph. A lot more time was spent on the suspension design, more money was put into it, and it was built with the intention of handling over comfort.

In the middle of nowhere where it is flat and straight and very far from point a to point b with not much in between, you simply drive fast to get where you're going. Even at 110 it takes about 2 minutes to pass the guy ahead of you after you see them. As long as nobody does anything sudden and jerky, everything works out ok.

Now in the sprawl that is NJ.. that crap just doesn't fly. The roads suck, there's tons of traffic, and when you have to do 90 just to keep up with pissed off commuter traffic... now that's a hairy situation.

The trooper, hard ass that he is, went for the reckless driving (wreckless, in this case) instead of charging the guy for speeding. I bet there's a stiffer penalty for a reckless conviction than for merely going too fast.
What I'm wondering is why the guy wasn't charged with evading the police. That kinda behaviour is generally frowned upon by law enforcement types. At least around here it is.
Could be Nebraska's just a whole 'nother kinda place.
