Not exactly Gramps ...Obama supports Wisconsin unions

President Barack Obama has stepped directly into the battle over unions in Wisconsin, calling Gov. Scott Walker's move to pass emergency measures that would weaken collective bargaining units an "assault."

The president's political machine worked in close coordination Thursday with state and national union officials to get thousands of protesters to gather in Madison and to plan similar demonstrations in other state capitals.

this one with a video with his interview ... it is not ok to vilify the unions . but he did not say boo about vilifying Walker

I have a hard time believing that Obama didn't make a few phone calls to help solidify the unions 'assault' on Walker. There was enough venom and anger coming from the union groups this past week to make a rattlesnake look like a pet turtle.

It is a state matter and one that DC should stay away. from.

BTW - federal workers don't have the collective bargaining agreement that the folks in Wis 'used' to have .. or maybe the bill will get overturned.

It isn't just a State matter in Wisconsin if the governor is part of a well funded national movement to further lower the living standards of middle class people.

The transfer of wealth from the middle to the top is already at an alarming level, and now this new trend comes along to take away American jobs, American pay, and American benefits.

The president has been on the other side of this issue since he took office and I don't think the little bit of posturing he has done so far would constitute 'coddling' in the minds of anyone who wasn't a hard core union buster.

I am not the biggest fan of unions, but what is going to take their place, casting couches, kickbacks of salary to the boss, political patronage, or what? The fanatical Tea Party folks are not telling us what they have in mind for an alternative to what has been in place for the past century or so. Is that because it is going to be so good for working people that they just wouldn't believe it if they told us, or because it is going to be sweat shop conditions and sweat shop pay?

What do you think?

A well funded movement'?? .. like this bankruptcy of America is all a vast right wing conspiracy ... I think there is as much to that as 911 was an insider job.

There is no denial that unions give vast amount$ of cash and vote$ to the democrats .. to the tune of like 95%. Is that saying that 95% of all union members are democrats .. I don't think so.

I think that this is an effort to reign in costs .. not to break the union$ .. paranoia the destroyer.

Do I need to repost the contribution links on how much money the dem$ have gotten .. 14 out of the top 20 in receipts, 2 repubs and the other 4 is a draw .. 14 out of 20 ... yeah sounds like a freakin conspiracy to me - check out the number of union$ there ... I can see where the democrat$ might feel like they are going to lo$e some money here.

Get it from some place else ... don't get it from property taxes and state income taxes from all the folks in Wisconsin .. or Cali .. or Illinois. Obama did get the most money from Wall Street this past election .. seems to worked out well for those boys on Wall Street.

As I've said before .. trade unions have some good things to say about them .. public servants unions .. who are they being protected from'?? the govt???

If they go on strike it shuts down govt .. schools or police stations .. if a business goes on strike you just go to some other business .. or if you don't like the way the McDonalds makes it's burgers you got to Burger King .. you have a choice - there is no competitive nature to the public unions.

Are you trying to tell me that the unions care about the middle class .. the unions care about those in the unions .. that's all ... they got theirs and if you're not in the union then fogetta about it.

Remember to bring you lawnmower and pretty daughter over to the foreman's house on your only day off! That's how it used to work, if you wanted to keep your job before the Unions! Oh, and don't forget to sign up at the company store on your way home to that company house you are buying on Land Contract! Of course you will be laid off before you can make that last payment so they can sell it again to the next "sucker", I mean valued employee! Read Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" and then tell me you want to live in that kind of environment!

I'd rather read King Arthur and Knights of the Round Table .... there were serfs then, we are serfs now.

I suppose those public servants are afraid of the mean ol' nasty mayor .. nasty gov .. nasty citizens perhaps? Trade unions served a purpose, public unions do not other than get the workers more money.

Good to see you back Lam

Yeah, it was droit de seigneur back when the serfs and Knights were running around, the Foremen at Ford didn't have a fancy name for it! Probably a wise move not to read "The Jungle", that book about the Chicago meat packing industry at the start of the 20th Century will put you off meat for a while after reading it! It got the Pure Food and Drug Act passed! Don't know how active I'll be here, have been reading a lot more lately and spending less time on the computer!

It was good to be king .. it is good to be in American royalty .. ahh to rub elbows with the richest and most powerful oligarchs in the world.

I've read the Jungle ... paints a bad picture of the beef industry, need for OSHA/unions unions and dirty Chicago politics for that matter.

Reading is good for you and fun
