if global warming is real what do we do with the deniers once the sea starts to rise. Do we take they out and shoot them? There needs to be some punishment for those who profitted from the denial until it became to late to save the lives of billions. Justise must prevail and someone must be made to pay the price.
if their data was so good, than why do they hide and spin it? Two batches of emails with shady stuff in them? Hmmmm maybe they have a politic bent and not a scientific one?

This is the cigarette smoking causing cancer debate all over again to the smallest detail. The tobacco companies paid people to pour over published data on cancer looking for errors, and guess what? They found error, because every human endeavor has some error and even some points than can be nit picked into looking like error.
Here is the take home message; eventually we discovered that the most ardent denier of the link between smoking and cancer knew all along that the link existed. They even knew in more specific detail what the link was all about. They were lying their asses off, playing for time.
I am certain that this phony debate will play out exactly the same way. The energy companies are funding the denial to play for time, until it is too late to do anything about and they have amassed enough money to ride out any adverse effects.

the comparison is not very good as you think, since the data has be hidden and twisted to make it look as the we are the major cause of an event that really did not happened as they said it did.
In the 80's an industry supported denial of something that was clearly happening sprang up to angrily deny the undeniable. They found error and even fraud in research that still held up even with the usual human deficiencies rolled up into it, they spun, they emoted, they fraudulently accused the researchers of fraud, and with politically motivation accused the researchers of political motivation.
They knew all along that the story line they were selling was false, but pushed it aggressively enough to either convince or confuse enough of the public to accomplish their delay tactics until it was much too late.
